Creating a new district raises environmental issues. SEMAPA was sufficiently sure of itself to draw up an environmental charter covering all the key phases in the Paris Rive Gauche project: design, implementation and construction, support for the development of new districts.

This charter reflects the planner's environmental undertakings in the fields of water, waste, ground and sub-ground, energy, noise, journeys, urban landscape and governance. SEMAPA is the first urban development company in France to be certified ISO 14 001 for its Paris Rive Gauche operation (environmental management). On 27 September 2000, it obtained the Ecopass certificate, no. F - 757401 which was renewed on 14 October 2003.

In October 2006, SEMAPA obtained the extension of its ISO 14001 environmental certification for all sites in the 13th arrondissement which it is tasked with developing.
